Sofía Ortiz

Sofía Ortiz (Mexico City, 1988) is a visual artist and educator. She holds an MFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design (2017) and a BA in Visual Arts from Yale University (2011). Her work makes visible the construction of the natural world and radical interspecies interconnectedness through drawing, painting, and writing. She has exhibited in solo and group shows both in Mexico and abroad. She has participated in several international and national residencies, including the Museo Anahuacalli (2023), Vermont Studio Center (2020), among others. She was a recipient of the FONCA Young Creators Fellowship in Painting twice (2012–13 and 2018–19).

She complements her artistic production with teaching: she is a professor of Drawing and Art History at CENTRO de Diseño, Cine y Televisión. She is currently developing research on care, non-gestational parenthood, and interspecies relationships through watercolor. She lives in Mexico City with her partner and a hyperactive dog.
