As part of the public program accompanying the exhibition Portátil-Phos, a workshop on building an analog VU meter will offer a hands-on and engaging opportunity to open the “black box” of electronics.

Technology surrounds us, yet we rarely stop to understand how the devices we use every day actually interact. How does the music playing from a cellphone become a signal that electronic devices can process? In this workshop, participants will build a VU meter (a visual volume indicator), a circuit that responds to music in real time by illuminating rows of LEDs according to sound intensity. Through this project, attendees will discover that electronics can be an accessible and creative tool, transforming theory into an immediate and tangible experience.

The workshop will be led by Antonio Salinas. The participation fee is MXN $400 (materials included).

ANTONIO SALINAS
Antonio Salinas studied Communications and Electronics Engineering at the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN). Through the use of embedded systems, programming, and telecommunications networks, he develops infrastructures that support artistic and cultural experimentation. He currently works independently on projects that connect technology, culture, and social causes.
