Oswaldo Vigas

Galería RGR presents the first individual exhibition of Oswaldo Vigas in Mexico: Oswaldo Vigas. Poetics of Abstraction comprises 50 years of the career (1950-2000) of one of the most prominent Latin American modernists of the twentieth century. Vigas was an intellectual deeply imbued in the problematic of its context, through his prolific creations, He developed an organic approach to geometry and abstraction. The extensive display of his work that we’ll present is only a representative sample of his capacity for experimentation and of the varied sources of inspiration he had: Cubism, Constructivism, Geometric Abstraction, Informalism, Neofiguration and Mysticism, seen through the Latin American sieve. Thinking about the aesthetic production of Oswaldo Vigas implies understanding the complex relationship between the plastic innovations of European Abstract Art and the Modernity project in Latin America.
