International textile collaboration
Exhibition
-> Oct 4 – Feb 28
A Common Thread is an international contemporary textile art project that fosters dialogue among artists from Mexico, Germany, the United Kingdom, Croatia, and Kyrgyzstan, together with the master artisans of Tamachij-Chihuatl, Nahua women from Hueyapan, Puebla. The project unfolds as a residency and collaborative process, in which wool shawls woven on pedal looms in Hueyapan serve as the starting point for the creative intervention of the participating artists.
This exchange enables a unique encounter between traditional techniques and contemporary practices, generating a cultural and aesthetic bridge that connects communities, ancestral knowledge, and current artistic creation.
The project is curated by Greta de León (Mexico) and Dorothea Schöne (Germany), within the framework of a cooperation between the Americas Research Network (ARENET), Kunsthaus Dahlem (Berlin), and MACCO (Oaxaca).
