Alexa Zendejas

The MAX presents the exhibition Figures at Play by Alexa Zendejas in the mezzanine gallery.

Alexa Zendejas presents ceramic sculptures of female athletes in different Olympic disciplines, with the intention of portraying the female body in sport as a profound reflection on stereotypes that can no longer be sustained.

Throughout history, sculptural language has been used to depict idealized, dominant bodies—mostly male—especially when evoking action, and in enduring materials such as marble, bronze, and iron. Alexa’s works propose to move beyond the stigmas and limitations that surround the female body in sport.

This project has been supported by a PECDA grant (Program for the Promotion of Artistic Creation and Development).
