Arte Abierto presents Public Art Workshop: The unfolding cube (or how space becomes social). Strategies of action, activation and participation in the public space from art, with Eder Castillo.
How do we activate and act in public space? How can we appropriate it through art?
Through diverse artistic strategies such as performance, intervention, installation, drawing and sculpture, as well as collective dynamics and participatory actions, it is possible to work on these questions. In this workshop, more than a theoretical class, we seek to expand our way of seeing and understanding space and our relationship with it.
Using the GuggenSITO as a canvas and space for experimentation, we intend to generate a collective artistic experience by materializing an exercise of intervention or action in it, which will be recorded on video for consultation and subsequent display in social networks and digital media.
GuggenSITO is a portable and floating museum, an inflatable structure similar to children's games that parodies the great museums of modern art. Its form mimics the architecture of Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. The design is deliberately clumsy, but beyond the obvious parody, it is a piece that speaks to inclusions and exclusions brought about by culture.
Its name includes a double trope: -sito as a diminutive and -sitio, alluding to the work in situ. This mobile museum does not operate from its formal presence, but from its architectural condition. It is not made to be seen, unlike the original, but to be used. It is a space for play and pure sociability that contrasts with the use of the museum in post-industrial society.
For Múltiple, Eder Castillo presents the 3rd edition of GuggenSITO in co-production with Arte Abierto, accompanied by a series of activities and activations to explore the many ways of inhabiting this floating museum.
