MEDITATIO SONUS

To celebrate the closing of long last happy* by Ugo Rondinone, Arte Abierto presents a special edition of Meditatio Sonus.

This sound art cycle offers sound-guided meditations and encourages mindfulness through the practice of deep listening. In this edition, the cycle will take place over two days, with two different meditations each day: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The meditations will be held in the gallery, among the sculptures the sun (2022) and the moon(2022) by Ugo Rondinone, creating an immersive experience that connects visual and sound art. Commissioned sound artists will carry out research on the relationship between mind, sound, and technology. The four meditation sessions will be guided live, using sound pieces created specifically for this cycle. Meditatio Sonus is a space for exploring the phenomenon of sound through the lens of art, where listening and meditation practices intersect.

On Saturday, June 7, there will be two meditations, each led by a different artist:

11:00AM | SARMEN ALMOND

Through this sound meditation, titled Inner Sea, we will aim to restore full breathing, deep listening, and harmony within the physical and psychic body. We will begin with exercises for full breathing and release, preparing ourselves for meditation. We will also acknowledge our posture and consciously perceive our body, locating tensions and letting go of thought. Sound will connect us with our inner universe, the breath that emits frequencies, gentle whispers, and colors that awaken calm, stillness, and creativity.

5:00PM | YAIR LÓPEZ

Bin bin a-rio is a music set that emerges from three text scores, which intertwine to form a new living score in constant interaction with people and the environment. Its practice is infused with the approach of Deep Listening, inviting a profound, dreamlike, bodily, and sensorial experience. The piece evokes cycles that echo the terrestrial tide: the continuous erosion of the earth caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun, the ebb and flow of day and night. Within this context, the binary notion of gender —man, woman— is questioned and transcended, opening the way for a fluid exploration of the human: humana, humano, humane, humono...

*The exhibition will be open only to those participating in the meditations that weekend.
