Machete

Machete opened its doors in Mexico City in 2012 as a gallery focused on contemporary Latin American art. The gallery is directed by Domitila Bedel.

They choose the artists they represent based on their creative processes, with the vision of a “whole” that goes beyond the final work itself. Each one of their artist has a distinct "voice" and visual language, as they aim for diversity to achieve a conversation that is inclusive and plural.

Their exhibition program is mostly composed of the artists they represent, but they also try to bring in the spirit of "conversation" by including independent curator (sometimes from fields other than art), and even showing artists that they do not represent. In this way, Machete always tries to expand and feed on new things.

In their space in the Colonia Roma, they have a special section called Trastienda. There, they show a selection of works by Latin American artists at affordable prices, with the purpose of fostering young collectors and supporting new talents taking their first steps into the art market.
