Patrona Clarividente

Arte Expuesto presents Verónica Villegas's exhibition, Patrona Clarividente.

The selected work comprises a cycle of artistic research initiated since 2016, where visual patterns are studied in the representation of sacred spaces that comprise Latin American visual culture and its echoes in the images that comprise an aesthetic of the popular in Mexico City and the multicultural diasporas of the Latinx. In my pictorial practice, the conjunction between the processes of transculturation of religious practices and their exhibition formats as devices of worship in areas of high transit of economic and symbolic capital is explored, symptomatic in the decoration of popular altars and the devotion dedicated to each saint or cult image that reflects a petition, at the individual and collective level, of a process of resistance, an identity revolution and a questioning of the institutional value of these religious images, which are not disassociated from the historical processes that society is going through Mexican woman and her perception of cult images as part of her collective unconscious.
