Sé-nos
Centro Cultural Plaza Fatima presents artwork by Lana Desastre: sé-nos, a collective project that belongs to the current cycle of exhibitions: En el filo del gozo.
It is a knitted, collaborative and modular piece in constant construction, created and coordinated by the collective Lana Desatre, a group that, since 2013, has been engaged in reflecting, practicing and sharing the manual and emotional experience of knitting.
This piece gathers the intimate experience of each weaver expanded in the collective in order to integrate a textile experience that materializes and embodies the feminist motto "the personal is political". Created specifically for the group exhibition (Re)generating narratives and imaginaries. Women in Dialogue, curated by Karen Cordero, Sé-nos reflects on the diversity not only of weaving, but also of our own bodies.
Despite the prevailing homologation of a concept of woman, femininity, and even feminism, what the reality of this piece reveals in the form of a metaphor is precisely the great variety of women, femininities and feminisms that exist, coexist and become stronger mutually when united. Breasts of women regardless of age, ideology, origin, residence, social class, color, phenotype or context; breasts knitted with yarns of different thicknesses, textures and tonalities to write a textile narration that tells the story of our bodies, that defends them so that they will never be the territory of others.
Sé-nos is a portrait in process, woven collectively, that strips away prejudices and imagines a future narrated in the first person of plural and in the feminine.
