Francisco Larios

Parque Lezma. Más allá del Sendero

The title of Francisco Larios’ latest solo exhibition at Heart Ego, refers to Buenos Aires ‘Lezama Park’, which writer and philosopher, Jorge Luis Borges frequently visited.

A lover of walks and strolls through streets, parks and gardens, Borges claimed to stop during his stroll through the park to listen attentively to the songs of birds, as if these songs were seeds or diamonds buried among lush greenery.

This exhibition is an exercise in imagining what Borges could have seen trying to situate his gaze through a blurred image of the park blooming before him; the distant lights of the city, their announcements and reflections, the silhouettes and their expressive silences.

These hidden places, full of sensual stimuli, are what Borges’ “garden of forking paths” consists of: not only the narratives of our busy lives endlessly splitting with each choice into alternative universes but also the decorations, trees, and colors with the songs of the birds hidden in them.

With the exhibition "Parque Lezama. Más allá del Sendero", Monterrey-based artist Francisco Larios tries to answer the question posed by the Korean philosopher Byung-Chul Han: "Is it possible in this age of digitalization to look again at nature and fill it with romanticism?"

The exhibition includes two series of works by Francisco Larios: In the main salon, ‘Khloris’, consisting of abstract canvases represents the sensorial experiences of the gardens; in our showroom, Coral Island, displays 250-3D modeled characters inspired by the novel ‘Lord of the Flies’. Both series constitute an interplay between the digital and traditional practices of the artist. While ‘Coral Island’ is focused on the infinite forking paths we create with each choice, Khloris contemplates the garden as a metaphor for the universe that envelops all the infinite opportunities of life.
