Eugenia Martínez

Centro Cultural Plaza Fatima invites you to the opening of Evocaciones, an exhibition by Eugenia Martinez curated by Ariadna Ramonetti.

"I know that beat. It is lifeless. I knowintimately that skin you are hitting. It was alive once hunted stolen stretched". Suheir Hammad, 2010

Evocaciones de Eugenia Martínez seeks to bring to the present an image from 1945 found by the artist at the Fototeca Nuevo León during her research for this project. It is an anonymous portrait of a bride, digitally transferred to the wet collodion technique. In this image, the enigmatic face of the bride, suspended in the gloom of the room, seems to look at us from far away, warning us about the rituals that often hide the violence experienced in silence. These violences are embedded in women's bodies like sharpened glass at the bottom of the image, reflecting like broken mirrors in the shared memory of the patriarchal oppressions that we all have experienced at some point.
