Atardecer, día con lluvia

Gotxikoa Gallery invites you to visit the new exhibition, Atardecer día con lluvia, presenting the most recent series of Daniel Martinez's artwork.

About the artist's work, his paintings approach the study of landscape and color from geometric abstraction.

In relation to its presence, the landscape appears in western iconography subject to the background, as a mere aesthetic element or as a symbolic reinforcement of the subject matter represented in the foreground; gradually in the temporal displacement of its iconographic charge that it begins to appear by itself as a mirror of the world.

From the representational point of view, a transcendental process of relationship between the individual and the environment, with painting as one of the common vehicles for its approach and understanding. This correspondence becomes dynamic and it is in this way that, without ceasing to be a common place, the landscape is empowered to become also a protagonist of its own representation.

Throughout the development of my work in the pictorial field, I have approached this way to implement a proposal where the environment, that structure from where the condition of the natural and the formality of the architectural correspond and juxtapose, has been codified towards the synthesis of the geometric, defining in a symbolic way the natural sphere and the civic planes in which we develop socially and culturally.

These perspectives generate diverse questions: about the condition of constant transformation and perception of the landscape. The complexity that this triggers intends to operate as a fragmentary scheme arranged in sets, from chromatic ranges and various formal planes of scale, appearance, atmosphere and structure -turning them into significant planes- that can be seen in each piece.
