Amanda Benefiel

Arte Expuesto presents a selection of artwork by Amanda Benefiel as part of the month's exhibition route.

Amanda Benefiel (b. Kalamazoo, Michigan) Crumbling Victorians, kids in rotating rock bands, cigarettes in cemeteries. She received a BFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and her MFA from Otis College in Los Angeles, CA. Benefiel’s work explores the emotive relationship of movement, color and materiality. Often using a boot repair machine she invites the viewer into the physicality of her artistic process.

Amanda Benefiel’s Arte Expuesto presentation is from the series You are Made of the Stars, a meditation on our place in the universe. Using an industrial boot repair machine to simultaneously function as connective tissue for the layers of canvas and as line drawings in the pictures. Her compositions break open into a visceral big bang and explore themes of relativity and paradox, communicating text directly to viewers who are passing by.
