Alexis Mata, Fractura

The mimetic representation of nature (still life) has historically served as an artistic motif, a window towards truth and reality that, when captured, becomes representative of a certain time-space, style, character, etc.

At a time when the configuration of our habits, customs and ways of understanding ourselves within a society have crashed against a wall, "Fractura" proposes a look back, a nostalgic look -characteristic of still lifes- towards nature, transience and mortality.

This series represents, in a subtle and at the same time graphic and direct way, the structural failure that underlies the understanding of reality, the clinging to beauty, youth and the perpetual values of an increasingly unsustainable reality.

A trompe l'oeil of nature with glitch; These flowers contain something poetic when they tell us that the world is falling apart: climate change, health catastrophes, political disasters; the moment of awareness and recognition of the lifelessness of an object and its decline.

Rubén Gutiérrez, Forzar la Puerta del Presente

It is an invitation to try to react and feel alive in a world full of anxiety and depression due to the absence of meaning. Two mechanical balls converse as they roll endlessly on the gray floor of a gallery while an exhibition setup is paused and no one is watching. The film of just over 14 minutes is made like a filmed diary of experimental filmmakers such as Jonas Mekas or contemporary video artists such as Oliver Payne and Nick Relph, but Gutiérrez chose to carry out his piece under an animist fiction where objects and the elements of the natural world are endowed with movement, life, soul and consciousness of their own.
