Tiempo en pantalla

As part of the exhibition Tiempo en pantalla by artist Catalina Bu, a conversation will be held to explore the practices of the independent publishing sector.

A.U.P.A. exists as a utopia that, although never fully materialized, remains alive in the minds of those seeking alternative ways of publishing in the Basque Country. Its name stands for Agrupación Universal de Publicaciones Artísticas(Universal Association of Artistic Publications), but it also evokes other meanings: Anomalous, Underground, Arrhythmic, Austere, Affectionate. Aupa, Aupi, Iepa… are onomatopoeic greetings in Basque.

The publishing houses Belleza Infinita, Bonito Editorial, and the design studio NubeNube will discuss the practices of the Basque independent publishing scene — a field that emerges from the margins and publishes, without filters, Basque authors of illustration and writing outside conventional circuits.

Elisabeth Pérez Fernández is an illustrator and the founder of Bonito Editorial (2013). She has published works by artists such as Pablo Amargo, Kveta Pacovská, Roger Olmos, and Mariana A Miseravel, among others, as well as books of her own authorship. She has also illustrated for publishers including Media Vaca, Erein, Igela, and Veleta Roja. In addition to her editorial work, she develops cultural management and education projects in museums, while maintaining her studio El Lirón Gris and her bookstore-gallery Segunda.

Garikoitz Fraga has directed Belleza Infinita since 2002, publishing and distributing works that defy genre boundaries—ranging between art, experimental comics, photobooks, visual essays, and graphic poetry. He also organizes cultural activities and curates exhibitions.
