Relatos de lo insólito

Proyecto E.M.E

The MAZ presents Relatos de lo insólito by Proyecto E.M.E; an exhibition in which Santiago Amaya, So Cabrera López, Daniela de la Torre, María Enríquez, Martín Estrada Márquez, Alonso Galera, Santiago Gómez, Diego González Gómez, Perla Mata Chairez, Gladys Méndez, Mariana Paniagua, and Jysus Ramírez participate.

The exhibition is part of Biombo, a program by MAZ that enables the expansion of artistic practices that incorporate writing, publishing, and editing through works that are not confined to the book format but must be read to be understood.

Through a selection of twelve pieces by emerging artists, with stories that move between the limits of truth and the merely anecdotal, Proyecto E.M.E presents Stories of the Unusual in the MAZ Reading Room, as part of its Biombo exhibition program. Accompanied by various evidences, such as photographs, documents and other materials compiled in a publication, the pieces not only tell unusual or improbable stories—as extraordinary as the loss of a shipment, a chance encounter with Madonna, never-before-opened letters from the Vatican, or even entomological discoveries in forgotten corners of the country—but also offer a brief overview of emerging contemporary art from different regions of the country.

Thus, the exhibition becomes an opportunity to reflect on the museum as a fertile space for imagination and narrative, where each work carries a story waiting to be heard and, although it cannot always be proven, invites us to rediscover these objects.

Proyecto E.M.E is a platform that seeks to make visible, promote and generate opportunities for visual creators. It arises as a response to the uncertainty, insecurity and lack of opportunities that emerging artists face. Our goal is to generate spaces for the dissemination, exhibition and sale of works, as well as to create inclusive and respectful dynamics towards artists. The project is currently working in two directions: one is the Instagram platform, where the work of various artists is disseminated through weekly curatorships and other activities; the other is a curatorial project, participating in fairs, managing events, exhibitions, among others. Both directions feed off each other, as we frequently collaborate with artists who have been published on our page to generate opportunities to exhibit their work, just as we meet new artists through the curatorial project to subsequently disseminate their work on the platform.
