Mon Montero, visual artist and photographer, presents her first solo exhibition, 080800 Memor | Cordis, at Sala Juárez | LARVA, curated by Daniela Celis.
080800 Memor | Cordis is an ode to the object and a self-portrait through instant photographs that portray individuals in a sincere and spontaneous way. It is a project that involves people and the way their appreciation of everyday life contributes to the artist’s own existence.
Far from the traditional self-portrait, Mon Montero offers a way of narrating the self through absence—through traces, through what is inhabited and what allows itself to be inhabited. The camera does not linger on faces, but rather on echoes: projected shadows, blurred textures, visual memories that fade with time.
The use of the Polaroid format reinforces this fleeting temporality. These are unique images, marked by imperfections that become a language of their own. The repetition of the code 080800 and the fragments of text scattered throughout the exhibition act as emotional keys, as a kind of affective archive.
080800 is an exercise in contemplation—an invitation to observe closely what often goes unnoticed, and to find, in what seems trivial, a form of permanence.
This exhibition does not seek answers, but rather leaves questions suspended in the air: How fleeting is the present? What would become of us without our memory?
