Manifesto presents Especies protegidas en la tienda del museo a group show featuring the work of Jis and Trino Monero, with the participation of more young comic and cartoon creators: Satterugly, John Medina, Juan Diego Covarrubias, Manchón Monero, Mauricio Cárdenas, Panelismo and Pulse.
In the effervescent Mexican cartoon scene, Jis (José Ignacio Solórzano Pérez) and Trino (José Trinidad Camacho Orozco) have forged an indomitable collaboration for more than four decades. More than colleagues, this creative duo represents a friendship that translates into a vibrant and multifaceted world of graphic humor.
Jis, with his stage name resonating in the culture, has cultivated a unique style evident in works such as "Another Day", a series of cartoons that capture intimate thoughts and philosophical reflections in inimitable ways. His ability to explore the scatological, the profound, and the trivial without restraint has left an indelible mark on the cartoon landscape.
On the other hand, Trino, recognized for his acidic and direct humor, has addressed topics ranging from children's jokes to political criticism. His versatility is evident in contributions to his strips Martian Chronicles and Fables of Cops and Robbers. Awards and recognitions such as the National Journalism Award and the Inkpot Award are testaments to his lasting impact.
Entering this fascinating universe, Jis and Trino emerge as "legendary moneros", a dynamic, funky and sensual partnership since the eighties. With more than 40 years of relationship, they have created a constant stream of narratives, jokes and books, highlighting the iconic "El Santos vs. La Tetona Mendoza." The exhibition also highlights their cinematic foray, bringing their characters to the big screen and further cementing their status as legends of graphic humor. This exhibition is a tribute not only to their collaboration but also to their foray into media such as radio and television with the program "La Chora."
In addition, this exhibition also presents the young moneros, legacies of Jis and Trino, in their own “Moneros Store” where you can find unique pieces up to collectible editions. From the boldness of Satterugly to the unique perspective of Panelism, this list encompasses a diversity of creative approaches, each with a unique aesthetic value. While Juan Diego Covarrubias fuses technology with mysticism, Manchón Monero addresses social causes with humor and satire. John Medina and Mauricio Cárdenas explore intense emotions and iconic figures, each with their distinctive style. Finally, Pulse challenges urban art conventions with its authenticity and innovation. Each artist enriches the creative panorama with his uniqueness.
This exhibition invites us to immerse ourselves in the rich universe of the giants of Mexican cartoons, celebrating a friendship that has withstood the test of time and continues to leave an indelible mark on culture. Their friendship and collaboration are a testament to their lasting influence on Mexico's humorous and graphic scene. More than just moneros, they present themselves as a "protected species", an inexhaustible source of ingenuity that challenges their own fears about the future of moneros in contemporary culture.
