Diálogos

Casa Ceniza presents Dialogues, a collective exhibition which brings together the work of Maxine Álvarez, Fer Guerra, Páramo, Giselle Riestra, David Gutierrez, and Veronica Bernal.

The gaze on the landscape, the clay that was once stone, the hand tracing a gesture. Valter Hugo Mãe says that the craft of the artisan is to educate the materials towards a vocation that they possess by their own nature, as if they were reviving the ancient memory that lies in the matter. We participate in this very ancient craft: humans have worked the earth for thousands of years.

The shape, the weight, the texture. With the gestures we make on the wet clay we revive languages that allow us to establish dialogues with ourselves, with others and with nature. Each expression is unique; there is a permanent return to recognizing and redefining ourselves. “What do I want to bring into the world? In myself.” The earth guides us in the constant search for identity and belonging.

In the middle of the Earth lies the fire patiently. Our history is linked to it, we must also look at it to understand this in its vastness. In the oven the truthfulness of our work is revealed. The ordeal and chance of fire shows what we are made of. A careful listener will discover in its crackling an ancient rhythm, and in the simple dialogue, lessons of humanity, resilience and transformation.

The pieces in this exhibition represent the unique dialogue that each ceramist has established with his or her environment. Each conversation has followed a different path that is now materialized in these works. We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed making them.
