Independent Publishing and Illustration Fair
Event
-> Aug 2 2025
Biombo is a program of the Zapopan Art Museum (MAZ) that promotes the expansion of artistic practices linked to writing, publishing, and editing, through works that go beyond the traditional book format but still require reading in order to be understood.
As part of its parallel activities, the program hosts an annual gathering dedicated to independent publishing and illustration. The eighth edition of the Biombo Fair will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, in the context of the exhibition Tiempo en pantalla by Chilean artist Catalina Bu, presented in MAZ’s reading room.
This year’s program features Otro Espacio as a special guest and a visual identity designed by Álex Siordia. For the third year in a row, Casa del Autor Zapopan will offer workshops focused on animation, comics, and illustration in the days leading up to the fair.
In addition to the traditional one-day pop-up market Maravillas de un día, the program includes activities in collaboration with La Duplicadora, Editorial 2628, Taquitojocoque, Ruda Fanzine, Delirios Visuales, MIXMIX, and Sonido Pantano, proposing a full day dedicated to reading, listening, and drawing. The event will also include a pop-up by Palomanegra, offering a special menu of food and drinks to enjoy throughout the day.
Catalina Bu is a Chilean author and artist. Throughout her career, she has developed a style defined by simple and imprecise lines, working across disciplines such as drawing, painting, and illustration. Her editorial work includes her first comic Diario De Un Solo (Catalonia Chile, Tusquets Mexico, Sesi-SP Brazil, La Cafetière France), En Blanco (Catalonia Chile, Almadía Mexico), and her most recent graphic novel Nadie Como Tú (Fulgencio Pimentel, Spain). She has participated in various international book fairs and exhibited her work in South Korea, Italy, China, the United States, and Mexico. She has collaborated with organizations such as the United Nations, Amnesty International, and World Vision, as well as brands like Netflix, Vans, Google, Moleskine, H&M, and Sony Music. She currently works independently from her studio in Santiago, Chile.
Otro Espacio is an independent exhibition project based in Guadalajara, Mexico. Its goal is to connect artists with new audiences and art professionals, promoting collaboration among creators, curators, and exhibition spaces; making diverse practices visible; and fostering a community built on collective and critical work through humor and sarcasm, thus demystifying the traditional notion of art. The project encourages freedom in the development of ideas and processes and invites artists to explore media that may be unconventional in their practice. Its current members are Hiram Constantino, Jashira Sandoval, Nancy Sepúlveda, and Irvyn Roho.
Álex Siordia trained as an industrial designer in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Drawing from simple shapes and bright colors, Siordia merges two disciplines in his creative process: illustration and the development of functional objects. Using emotional design as a tool, his aim is to create atmospheres that connect users with products in unexpected ways. He has given talks on design, participated in group exhibitions in Mexico and Spain, and collaborated with brands such as C&A, Jo Malone London, Cool Capital, Chimiyú, BRUNA, and the OOO studio in Kyoto, Japan. His work has been featured in various digital and print media, including Cream Magazine, Players of Life, and CoolHunterMX.
