Studio visit of Benjamín Torres

As part of Andar es ver, a duo exhibition by Claudia Luna and Benjamín Torres, Saenger Galería invites the public to a studio visit of Benjamín Torres: an exploration of his work and artistic processes through the perspective of Claudia Luna.

Benjamín Torres has developed a practice centered on the collection, circulation, and reorganization of images and objects drawn from contemporary visual culture. His process can also be understood through the experience of urban wandering, viewing the city as an expanded archive where layers of visual, anthropological, and historical information accumulate. Along the routes that connect Mexico City’s Historic Center with Tacubaya, or Escandón with Santa María la Ribera, the presence of commercial signage, discarded printed matter, graffiti, industrial materials, and abandoned objects forms a landscape of signs that the artist retrieves and rearticulates. Through strategies of appropriation, assemblage, and accumulation, Torres examines the ways in which material culture generates meaning and shapes our understanding of the urban environment.
