La conferencia de los pájaros

In the framework of the exhibition La conferencia de los pájaros, Galería Gobernador presents an activation aimed at showing the totality of the parts of the series Pinturas de conversación, a project developed by Uriel López over the course of three years that articulates video, painting, and sculpture.

This activation unfolds in two simultaneous parts that account for the cycle of the project: on the one hand, a rotation of works in the gallery that incorporates the paintings from the first stage of the series, which portray scenes of birds in their natural state, in dialogue and contrast with the later pieces set in domestic spaces. On the other hand, the development of a live action that reinterprets a practice from Mexican popular tradition.

López's research traces parallels between captivity, falconry, and theater as systems of representation based on the construction of human fictions and stagings designed to contain nature.

By displacing this popular tradition into the white cube, the action opens a space for reflection on the limits of domestication in our historical relationship with non-human species.
