    Lateral presents Las Derrotas, an exhibition by artist and filmmaker Sumie García organized within the framework of the Red de la Imagen / FOTOSEPTIEMBRE 2024, an exhibition program of the Centro de la Imagen.

    Las Derrotas is a quest, almost a spell, to find an island that may or may not exist in the Gulf of Mexico. Exploring elements of portulan charts from the 14th and 15th centuries, Las Derrotas reflects on the arbitrary and shifting nature of maps. If maps as symbols of truth and colonialist power are not to be trusted, how are we to perceive territory?
