Matthias Bitzer

RGR Gallery presents Cosmic Rational, Matthias Bitzer's first individual exhibition in Mexico.

This exhibition presents a constellation between painting, installation and collage that reflects on the complexity of finding the place that one occupies in a present that is rapidly accelerating and refracting.

One of the main protagonists of the exhibition is “Happy Eddie,” a shape-shifting, eel-like figure who—in Bitzer's world—has the ability to perpetually reconfigure, rebuild, and camouflage himself; either expanding like an accordion in the multimedia installation Cosmic rational or coiling to form a luminous white in his Eddie Spaghetti painting.

In parallel with his new paintings and installations, Bitzer is also presenting works from his collage series titled phosphor notes. Unlike the imagery in his figurative pieces, which have an enigmatic and timeless quality, the phosphor notes have a different temporality: swift and rapid captures of our time that the artist addresses on an abstract level and incorporated into larger works dimension.
