Galería Hilario Galguera Condesa presents Fisura, a solo exhibition by Mareo (Mario Rodríguez Echeverry). The artist joins the Condesa space as a guest creator. At the breaking point where geological abstraction meets the urban scale, the exhibition becomes the vessel for a conceptual premise drawn from the earth’s fractures: the crack understood not as an inert void, but as a zone of intense creative tension.
The exhibition is articulated through a selection of recent work divided into two technical and material approaches. On one hand, the pictorial body of work is composed of four paintings that reconfigure the traditional landscape into a field of pure experience. In these canvases, Mareo’s visual grammar draws from structural disruptions where layers of pigment function as registers of time and memory, creating textured surfaces that emulate geological faults where the matter seems on the verge of yielding to reveal its internal lines of force.
As a counterweight that challenges the gravity of painting, the exhibition simultaneously incorporates two of his iconic light pieces. These sculptures and light installations operate as static beams of LED light that alter the physical perception of space; by projecting their luminosity and engaging in a dialogue with the surrounding shadows, the pieces manage to dematerialize the visual boundaries between construction and void.
In this way, Fisura proposes an exercise in perceptive acuity through the contrast of its formats. The dialogue between the four paintings and the two light interventions generates an atmosphere of constant oscillation; a threshold where the heaviness of matter roots us to the ground while the immateriality of light expands our consciousness toward new states of attention.
Faithful to the gallery’s curatorial rigor, this exhibition does not offer absolute answers, but rather opens a fissure to remind us that fractures, far from being flaws, are spaces through which beauty, memory, and transcendence can manifest.
