As part of the public program for the exhibition The City That Never Stopped Playing, "The World Cup and Women" will take place at the Conferencia Interamericana de Seguridad Social. Laura Manzo, journalist and CEO of La Labó, will present an analysis of how the world's biggest sporting event shapes women's decision-making, spending, and participation. Moderated by Josefina Granados.
The exhibition recovers the urban, family, and affective memory of four World Cups that have marked the football history of the capital: the FIFA World Cups™ of 1970, 1986, and 2026, as well as the 1971 Women's World Championship.
It also brings together contemporary works that engage with the citizen memory of the World Cups, such as Yvonne Venegas's portraits of the Pioneers of women's football; Santiago Arau's aerial photographs of pitches and play spaces in Mexico City; illustrations by Francisco de la Mora, created especially for the exhibition; and the collective piece Atlas de tierra, coordinated by Irina Calderón, made up of 48 ceramic balls intervened by contemporary artists, alluding to the 48 teams that will participate in the 2026 World Cup. The exhibition will feature a free public program including workshops, weekend pickup football games, guided tours, sticker trading, talks, book presentations, and a film club.
