Déborah Sierra

Biquini Wax presents the Génesis exhibition by Déborah Sierra.

Génesis is an origin story, a gesture that places the chess pieces on the table to define the contours of the game. Déborah Sierra displays a long visual lexicon of ambivalent forms -between scathing criticism and serendipitous oneirism-, through which she lays the foundations for the random construction of her alternate worlds. Uchronies ask the retrospective question “What if…?” as a speculative riddle to spark the imagination and the questioning mind. Close to this narrative practice, Déborah's “Architectural Mythologies” remind us of the range of games available, their different paths and possibilities. Recognizing the power of chance as much as that of agency, the artist questions the redundant and repetitive choice of the board game* to suggest broader and more hybrid horizons.
