Beatriz Zamora's (Mexico, 1935) work crystallized around black as the visible, material, and conceptual axis of her painting. If black is not merely the absence of light (in its most traditional definition) but the existence of space, Zamora uses it to create structure and reflection, drawing from her research on black materials in nature. She demonstrates that, just as those who have lived in snowy landscapes can distinguish various shades of white, the same applies to black: the vital color of the Earth that inhabits its depths and our own as well. Beatriz Zamora has held over 80 solo exhibitions from 1962 to the present and has participated in nearly 300 group exhibitions in museums, galleries, palaces, forums, foundations, cultural centers, private and public institutions, bookstores, and art spaces in Mexico and abroad. Beatriz Zamora's work is among the most significant on the national art scene.
