Bárbara Foulkes

In this performance, Bárbara Foulkes transforms the bleachers of Tribunas into a live space through a score of actions. Through the reading of texts aloud and collective listening, an initial reflection is sparked on play, collectivity, and what it means for the body to be in action. The invitation is to activate the viewer’s body: to walk, move as a group, and engage physically through dynamics that range from shared movement to the use of a suspended net. By crossing paths, supporting one another, and reorganizing themselves in space, the participants’ bodies destabilize the singular viewpoint of the traditional stadium and transform the stands into a multidirectional device where multiple perspectives coexist.

The artist will create a rope installation in one of the spaces within Tribunas, which will remain on view from July 31 to August 2.

Bárbara Foulkes (Buenos Aires, 1982) is an artist, choreographer, and cultural manager based in Mexico City since 2008. Her work stems from an interdisciplinary practice in which the body—as a physical, technical, and perceptual system—serves as the central axis of inquiry. She explores the relationships between body, gravity, machine, and space through a choreographic approach that privileges material experimentation and sensory perception. She is particularly interested in the body under tension: suspended, off-balance, and subjected to specific technical conditions that reveal new poetic possibilities. She currently coordinates the Education Department and Public Program at the Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum. She is a member of Colectivo AM and has presented her work in Mexico, the United States, and Europe at venues including MUAC, Museo Tamayo, EMPAC, REDCAT, and The Kitchen.
