Ángel Cammen

Central de Arte presents ¿Quién podría dormir a través de todo ese ruido?, the new solo exhibition by Ángel Cammen (Nuevo León, 1997), curated by Guillermo Santamarina.

The exhibition is a project by NAGG, in collaboration with Alma Colectiva, and brings together a selection of previously unseen paintings made over the past year, presenting the artist’s most recent body of work. Cammen’s practice has gained an increasingly prominent presence within the Mexican contemporary art landscape.

This new body of work opens a new chapter in Ángel Cammen’s practice. Without abandoning the interests that have accompanied his painting from the beginning, the artist expands an investigation grounded in self-portraiture, a device he uses to explore identity, memory, affection, and human relationships.

In this series, interiors, landscapes, and everyday scenes take on a broader presence within his work. Figures no longer appear in isolation, but are integrated into spaces that actively participate in the construction of each image. Landscape and domestic architecture cease to function as mere backdrops and instead become part of the emotional experience of those who inhabit the painting. Rather than approaching self-portraiture as an autobiographical exercise, Cammen uses his own image as a starting point for constructing scenes that speak to shared experiences. His paintings invite viewers to move through a universe in which personal experience enters into dialogue with universal emotions, establishing a balance between the intimate and the collective.

The exhibition’s title, ¿Quién podría dormir a través de todo ese ruido?, accompanies this new series without imposing a single interpretation. Rather than offering answers, the works propose a space for contemplation in which intimacy, uncertainty, and affection coexist. The exhibition also marks a significant moment in the artist’s career: Guadalajara holds a special place in this trajectory. It was here that Alma Colectiva made one of the first acquisitions of his work, establishing a relationship that now finds continuity in this project.

Presented at Central de Arte, the exhibition brings together, for the first time in the city, an extensive selection of recent paintings conceived for this new stage of his practice.

Ángel Cammen (Nuevo León, Mexico, 1997) holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. His practice is primarily rooted in painting, using self-portraiture as a means of addressing themes related to identity, memory, landscape, and human relationships. He has presented the solo exhibitions Madre, estoy viviendo con un hombre (Centro Cultural Plaza Fátima, 2024) and Salaverna (Bodega OMR, 2025). His work has been included in exhibitions at Travesía Cuatro, Alma Colectiva, Zona MACO, and Casa de la Cultura de Nuevo León, among other venues. In 2026, his work was acquired by the FEMSA Collection, and he completed an artistic residency at Cobertizo, Estado de México.
