Ana Navas

Pequod presents the exhbition by Ana Navas (Quito, 1984), Aura significa soplo, curated by Fabiola Iza.

During the last few years, Ana Navas’ work has taken as its starting point the multiple interpretations, appropriations, readings and iterations that modern art experiences in the fields of design, fashion and marketing, among others, as well as its insertions into everyday life. Using different production strategies such as translation, appropriation and copying, her work is interested in the processes of circulation in which objects and ideologies are inscribed and, above all, what happens – like telephone charades – in this transit. Aura significa soplo, solo show at Pequod Co., brings together four recent series, made during Navas' artist residency at Fondation Fiminco, Paris, and an oblong painting on linoleum made specifically for the exhibition. The common denominator among the more than twenty pieces on display is an exploration, full of humour and irony, of how different systems and groupings are shaped to order the world.
