Campeche is pleased to present Ente Vítreo, the first solo exhibition by Mexican artist Alicia Ayanegui.
For this exhibition, Alicia will showcase a new series of paintings which converge her appreciation for object and gesture. This body of work reaffirms her longtime interest in light and darkness, thus returning to a lighter color palette, she portrays objects which, irrelevant at first glance, she elevates simple strokes and through close observation of her personal environment.
In Ente Vítreo, Ayanegui addresses crystal as a metaphor for human existence and its dualities: fragility versus resistance, beauty versus danger, temporality versus permanence, life versus death. Objects appear floating on the canvas, foreign to a defined time and space. The paintings present light backgrounds charged with the corporeality and gesture that characterizes her work, while lines and volumes invite the viewer to glimpse into unfinished stories of those who lived with the objects and to complete spaces of abstraction that the paintings suggest.
Alicia Ayanegui (b.1994, Mexico City, Mexico) studied Visual Arts at the Faculty of Arts and Design of the Universidad Autónoma de México (ENAP). She has received a scholarship from the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (FONCA) Jóvenes Creadores in 2019-2020 and 2021-2022.
