Bárbara Foulkes | In-gallery activation

Galería Gobernador invites you to the performative activation that Bárbara Foulkes will carry out in the context of the exhibition Una(s) cierta(s) mirada(s) para unos ciert(os) relato(s).

Starting from the audiovisual and photoperformance piece exhibited in the gallery, Cómo siendo peces podemos ver el agua (2022–2025), the artist and choreographer Bárbara Foulkes presents a performative activation that returns the video and photo experience to the live and corporeal realm.

The work explores the symbiotic relationship, the tensions, and the limits between the human body and heavy machinery, raising a central question: who moves whom?

For this activation, which consists of a site-specific installation and performance, the gallery becomes the container for a live action lasting 32 minutes. Through a suspended choreography in direct dialogue with the recording of the industrial excavator, the action brings into play the latent symbiosis between body-machine and body-human. By subjecting the body to specific physical conditions, Foulkes materializes the fundamental tensions that shaped the original piece—fragility, strength, and desire—in order to delve deeper into the idea of the machine as a living extension of our own bodies.
