Alongside Vanessa Raw’s solo presentation, Georgina Pounds Gallery will open with a group exhibition co-curated by Constantin Nakov. Presenting a groups of works through historical echoes, such traditions are reawakened by Mexican influence. The exhibition brings together drawing, painting and sculpture by artists who lived in or were influenced by Mexico over the past century. For them, Mexico has offered a sense of freedom, allowing forms and ideas to be loosened and transformed. Rather than positioning Surrealism as a closed historical movement, the exhibition treats it as a living method - one that continues to offer artists within the gallery’s programme a language.

Sofía Bassi’s paintings, first produced in Acapulco during her imprisonment, resonate powerfully with the tension between confinement and inner freedom. For Tali Lennox, Mexico has open unconsciously the ancestral and elemental. Lennox has been particularly drawn to ceremonies, traditions, and layered symbolism. In her paintings, these presences linger at the threshold between life and afterlife, refracted through ancient cultures and transcendent states of consciousness, somewhere between moonlight and shadow.

The gallery is establishing itself in a neo-classical building in Roma Norte; furniture by ATRA Collective sits alongside carefully selected books by La Joplin. Additionally, SendB00ks presents two artist books: The Debutante and Other Stories by Leonora Carrington, with special covers by Lennox, and A Wizard of Earthsea, recovered by Luostarinen.
