Sofía Elías

Playing to Play. Play as Methodology in the Practice of Sofía Elías is the first solo exhibition by the Guadalajara-born artist and architect in her home city. Presented by Proyectos de Aquí in partnership with Tajín and YAYA, the exhibition delves into the universe of Blobb, a multidisciplinary practice in which an intuitive and playful way of thinking about architecture is translated into objects, bodies, and spaces of everyday use.

Playgrounds, furniture, objects, and jewelry appear as variations of a single line of research: melted, sticky forms that oscillate between the solid and the soft, and are activated through their relationship with the body and use. Through this practice, Elías plays with the properties of materials and their possibilities, taking objects beyond their utilitarian function into the realm of sculpture, where complexity does not depend on scale and form opens up a universe of possibilities.
