Misión: Papas espaciales para llevar

The Museo de Arte de Zapopan presents Canícula: A summer camp for young art explorers — a space for experimentation and critical thinking designed for young artists, aimed at creating meaningful experiences for children through contemporary art.

The sculpture Purple Potato Baby is part of a project involving potatoes that traveled to space. Inspired by this work by Xin Liu and Lucía Monge — featured in the exhibition atrás del ártico se esconde un paraíso — this activity invites children to create backpacks for planting their own potatoes and to reflect on how cultivating multiple species can help us imagine fairer, more resilient futures full of possibilities.

Led by: El Huerto Agroecológico Atemajac

For children ages 6 to 12

El Huerto Agroecológico Atemajac is a community space for learning and care. Since 2008, it has promoted food sovereignty and connection with nature from an agroecological perspective. It is currently run by eight women who collectively work the land, fostering sustainable practices and sharing knowledge through workshops on home gardening, community work (tequios), and participation in seed exchange fairs. Their work is grounded in collaboration, popular education, and respect for all life.

We recommend bringing: water, a snack, and comfortable clothing that allows free movement and can get messy.

Registration

* Canícula, or the dog days, is the hottest time of the year, named after the constellation Canis Major (the “Greater Dog”). In the northern hemisphere, this period occurs in July and August — during summer. (In the southern hemisphere, these months correspond to winter — and it even snows!)
