El teatro de Miriam
Exhibition
-> Jan 31 – Mar 28
Opens on Jan 31 | 12:00PM - 3:00PM
El teatro de Miriam is a solo exhibition dedicated to Brazilian artist Miriam Inez da Silva (b. 1939, Trindade, Brazil – 1996, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), curated by Cristiano Raimondi.
This exhibition is the second part of the show presented last year at Travesía Cuatro Madrid. Featuring works dating from the 1960s to the early 1990s, the exhibition pays tribute to this unique figure within the Brazilian artistic landscape.
Miriam Inez da Silva was an irreverent and transgressive woman who, by connecting elements of Brazilian vernacular culture present in her intimate surroundings, created a body of work that mirrors the dynamics of Brazil’s modernization processes throughout the 20th century. The main subject of her work appears as a white background in her paintings, which she called “life”: a space of social power and cultural plasticity, where relationships are reproduced and traditions are challenged.
