Lagos presents open studios by the work of Jessica Illsley, Johana Jaramillo and Mallinali Rubalcaba.

Jessica Illsley is a British artist whose practice combines lyrical abstraction with organic figuration. In her paintings, she works with a palette dominated by turquoise tones, sea greens, and soft earth colors, creating an almost aquatic sense of “fluidity” that seeks to evoke an emotional and aesthetic response in the viewer.

Mexican artists Johana Jaramillo and Mallinali Rubalcaba is a creative duo who express their passion through different media—painting, objects, writing, and video—to explore retroflexion, an unconscious defense mechanism in which an individual directs toward themselves thoughts, emotions, or actions that were originally aimed at the external world. In this way, emotional implosions are processed through artistic practice.
