Ioulia Akhmadeeva

Patricia Conde Galería presents Nombrar es resistir, a solo exhibition by Ioulia Akhmadeeva, curated by Patricia Lagarde.

Nombrar es resistir brings together the artist books Stop War / Net Voyne!, Testigos y testimonios, and Intimacy of Tangible Writings as an intimate archive shaped by memory, war, and the fragility of images.

In Stop War / Net Voyne!, a piece of velvet brought home as a war trophy by my grandfather in 1945 and later transformed decades afterward by my mother into a garment for my daughter in Mexico activates a reflection on the historical repetition of violence. The past lingers in objects, fabrics, and bodies: one war appears within another. The coexistence of the book and its postcard version creates a tension between the public and the domestic. One confronts; the other whispers.

In Testigos y testimonios, the personal photographic archive and various family objects speak of identity, memory, and remembrance. Photography and the still image function as points of departure for different narratives.

In Intimacy of Tangible Writings, received letters become the living material of the artist book. Handwritten text preserves the trace of absence and transforms the act of opening its pages into an experience of shared intimacy.

A textile presence runs throughout the exhibition. Paper and fabric engage in dialogue as sensitive surfaces where the image ceases to function solely as a document and instead becomes presence. The exhibition also includes independent prints connected to the books on view and invites viewers to pause before that which insists on remaining.
