IMMATERIAL 1: Ivan Cheng

As part of the performance program IMMATERIAL of Feria Material, Ivan Cheng [AU/NL] presents MOOD RING (temor teflon), a performative work created for the terrace of Casa del Lago UNAM that combines language, theatricality, and audience participation. Drawing on the ideas of the mood ring and nonstick Teflon, the piece reflects on the body onstage, emotional perception, and the limits of devices when they cease to function as they were designed to. Oscillating between carefully written monologues and interaction with the audience, Cheng questions what an audience is and what it is capable of producing, exploring friction, vulnerability, and presence when surfaces—emotional and material—are scratched or disrupted.
