Escuchar la casa

Museo de Arte de Zapopan presents Escuchar la casa, a sound art workshop led by Francisco Chavez Lizardi.

Starting from the exhibition La escalera hizo caer la casa by Alejandra Laviada, we will think of the house as an acoustic body that preserves traces of daily life. Through active listening and recording exercises, participants will capture sounds associated with the domestic environment —such as footsteps, door creaks, handle clicks, and variations in silence. These recordings will be processed using cassette tape re-recording and effect pedals. The workshop will culminate in a group composition that shapes a sonic house, built from the recordings made during the session, activating new sensory layers of the space.

Francisco Chavez Lizardi is a sound artist and musician. He holds a Master's degree in Critical Thought and Hermeneutics from the Autonomous University of Zacatecas. His practice focuses on field recording, sampling, and extended musical techniques, exploring sound manipulation through analog and digital technologies as a means of aesthetic inquiry. In 2024, he was selected for the composition residency at the International Field Recording Encounter (EIGC) at CMMAS in Morelia, Michoacán. Under the pseudonym Nihil Admirari, he has produced EPs such as Suspiros (2020) and the trilogy Máquinas de sueños y alucinaciones: I. Signos arquetípicos (2018), II. Drones diarios (2018) y III. El matrimonio del cielo y El Infierno (2014; reissued in 2019).

In 2022, he developed the project Sonidos de la barranca, with support from the Jalisco Ministry of Culture. He is currently part of the projects ENT and ALTAER. Between 2017 and 2021, he was a member of the group PHI, performing at various venues in Mexico and the United States, including South by Southwest.
