El Salón de la Plata sobre Gelatina

LTRL presents El Salón de la Plata sobre Gelatina, a group exhibition that brings together more than 20 contemporary artists who work within the darkroom and understand photography not as a neutral record, but as a living, fluid, and deeply material practice. By assembling silver gelatin prints at both large and small scales, precise enlargements, and camera-less photograms, the exhibition insists on photography as an object shaped by light, touch, accident, and duration, while also presenting the darkroom as a space of research, resistance, and invention.

El Salón de la Plata sobre Gelatina is curated by Fabiola Menchelli, Melvin Lara, and Miguel Ángel Ortega, and seeks to bring younger generations closer to the darkroom as a space of possibility, play, and experimentation. This exhibition would not be possible without the support of the new community darkroom at FOCO Lab in Mexico City. FOCO Lab is a laboratory specialized in fine printing for art and photography, born out of a personal need as artists and image producers. In 2022, its sister project LTRL was launched— a space dedicated to the dissemination and promotion of photographic practices, presenting both emerging artists and established figures from the national and international scene.
