During Art Week, the Centro Cultural de España in Mexico will host a dance event and conversation. Ruta del Castor will present Behind Solaz, a public art and participatory dance project by Spanish choreographer Antonio Ruz that brings together local and international talent and transforms public space into one of recreation and shared enjoyment.
Ahead of the premiere of the piece at Jardín Escénico, CCEMx will present an open rehearsal of Solaz, as well as a conversation with choreographer Antonio Ruz (National Dance Award, 2018), the curatorial team of Ruta del Castor, and the Nueva Red de Bailadores. In this way, the public will be able to take part in the cast’s creative process and participate in a discussion on the politics of pleasure and collaborative dance.
Participants:
Antonio Ruz. A choreographer and dancer recognized for his innovative approach to contemporary dance. He has received several awards, including Spain’s National Dance Award.
Ruta del Castor. A nonprofit organization dedicated to mediating and managing art projects grounded in genuine relationships and close collaboration between artists and communities experiencing different forms of marginalization.
Nueva Red de Bailadores. A collective that creates and sustains a community that dances freely: no cost, no alcohol, no harassment, no competition.
