1 gota de lluvia sobre el polvo
Exhibition
-> May 16 – Sep 27
Opens May 16 | 1:00PM
Museo de Arte de Zapopan (MAZ) presents 1 gota de lluvia sobre el polvo in Project Room 1, the first solo exhibition by Carmen Huízar in an institutional space.
The exhibition juxtaposes human life rhythms with those of nature, highlighting the artificiality of human ways of ordering reality and time. Under this premise, it brings together a large-format photographic series and a sculptural project created especially for this occasion, as well as a series of interventions in the museum's indoor and outdoor spaces.
As part of an artistic practice based on traversing her place of origin, Colotlán, Jalisco, as well as the cities where she has lived, Huízar records visual surfaces of the common landscape in rural and urban environments: walls, advertisements, signs, and other markers, which she later reconfigures through media such as painting, photography, installation, and artist's books. In this movement, the vernacular presents itself as a critical system of images.
In 1 gota de lluvia sobre el polvo, the physical and social forms through which different temporalities, spaces, and structures organize the body, landscape, and life are made visible.
On the opening day, at 12 PM, a guided tour will take place. During it, artist Carmen Huízar will present the research that gave rise to the exhibition 1 gota de lluvia sobre el polvo, as well as the processes that articulate her practice, focused on the recording and reconfiguration of signs from rural and urban environments. Through the photographic series on cemeteries in the northern region of Jalisco, the installation Aliento (2026), and the Adentro/Afuera (2017) interventions, the tour proposes a reading of the human logics that order landscape, time, and life, as well as the social mechanisms that regulate bodies.
