Territorios en el Entre

Biblioteca 611 presents Territorios en el Entre, an exhibition featuring works by artists Caren García Gattás and Sandra Mónica Gutiérrez.

This project emerges from a shared inquiry: to consider the spaces that arise from play and dreaming as symbolic territories, where experience extends beyond the logics of the everyday. In both registers, alternative modes of inhabiting take shape—capable of suspending the structures of the real and activating other forms of relation between body, image, and imagination. These territories are not only traversed; they are constructed in the act of moving through them: spaces of appropriation, transformation, and mutual affect.

The images that emerge from them operate as surfaces of tension: they conceal and reveal, contain and overflow, prompting an experience that oscillates between the intimate and the unknown. In this sense, inhabiting becomes an exercise in openness toward uncertainty.

In play, this mode of inhabiting is articulated through will: an impulse to explore limits—of space, body, and perception—that entails surrendering to the experience without the need to anticipate its outcome. In dreaming, by contrast, the subject relinquishes agency: it is the unconscious that charts the course, casting us into spatial configurations that, while strange, retain a deeply familiar quality.

The exhibition thus proposes a field of dialogue between these two forms of inhabiting: on one hand, the playful territories unfolding in Caren Aracely’s shells; on the other, the oneiric architectures configured in Sandra Mónica Gutiérrez’s animation. At their intersection, both practices activate a reflection on how we imagine, inhabit, and reconfigure the spaces that shape us.
