Que la gloria alumbre

Daniela Elbahara invites you to Que la gloria alumbre, a solo exhibition by Andrea Sánchez Córdova.

The music of regional Mexican has influenced Sánchez Córdova throughout her entire life — from the songs she listened to on road trips with her family to the quinceañera parties on the ranch. Now, the artist appropriates this musicality and uses the songs as a vessel that dialogues with love, art, and the abstract meaning of success.

Whether during a studio session or a drinking binge (sometimes these happen at the same time), rancheras, corridos, norteño boleros, and even cardenche singing make their presence felt and take the form of a soundtrack that sets the rhythm of the life of a young artist who is simultaneously navigating a premature professional path and romance.

This exhibition positions music as a device of desire, and it is through painting that the artist explores eroticism — not one found only in sensuality, but an eros that is ambitious and insatiable, fragile and arrogant.
