Casino Local is an exhibition, meeting, and artistic experimentation space located on the first or last street in downtown Cuernavaca. The project was founded by Antonio de la Mora, Benjamin Torres, and Alonso Galera, visual artists who live and work in this valley. We are interested in exploring the idea of the casino as a place of uncertainty and luck, a kind of hallucinatory space filled with multiple possibilities. A place where sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but you always play.
In this way, Casino Local is a self-managed project that presents group and solo exhibitions to foster dialogue, connections, and ways of making, thinking about, and inhabiting art. We are interested in working with emerging, mid-career, and established artists, recognizing that the value of a practice is not determined by its duration, but by the intensity of its conceptual and aesthetic explorations. We approach curating and installation as critical, yet playful, tools that allow us to transform the space and generate meaningful experiences for those who inhabit it. For us, the local is a situated platform, shaped by the socio-cultural, historical, and affective conditions of Cuernavaca: a city marked by transit, crossings, arrivals, and departures. A place of refuge and contradiction.
