ZⓈONAMACO

ZⓈONAMACO opens its doors at Centro Citibanamex to celebrate its eighteenth edition from February 9 to 13, 2022, receiving more than 170 galleries and exhibitors from more than 25 countries around the world and bringing together its four fairs simultaneously: ZⓈONAMACO Mexico Contemporary Art, ZⓈONAMACO Diseño, ZⓈONAMACO Salón and ZⓈONAMACO Foto.

For the 2022 edition, the curatorial team led by Juan Canela, artistic director of ZⓈONAMACO, has been renewed and will be made up of: Direlia Lazo (Havana, 1984) as curator of the new ZⓈONAMACO Ejes section; Luiza Teixeira de Freitas (Rio de Janeiro, 1984) as curator of ZⓈONAMACO Sur; Esteban King (Mexico City, 1986) as curator of ZⓈONAMACO Arte Moderno. Also added are Sara Hermann (Santo Domingo, 1969) as curator of the ZⓈONAMACO Foto fair, and Alfonso Miranda (Mexico City, 1978) as curator of the ZⓈONAMACO Salón fair. Cecilia León de la Barra (Mexico City, 1975) continues to lead the ZⓈONAMACO Diseño fair as artistic director.

ZⓈONAMACO MÉXICO ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO

It presents from the youngest and mid-career proposals to contemporary works by global artists and historical pieces of modern art, bringing together exhibitors of international stature in four specialized sections:

GENERAL SECTION

Selection committee: Teófilo Cohen (MONCLOVA PROJECTS, CDMX), Juan Eyheremendy (Vermelho, São Paulo), Ben Loveless (Galerie Nordenhake, Berlin/Stockholm/CDMX), Inés López Quesada (Travesía Cuatro, Madrid/Guadalajara/CDMX), and Fernando Mesta (GAGA, CDMX/Los Angeles).

The largest section of the fair presents leading international galleries with pieces in painting, graphics, sculpture, installation, video and new media, from the most representative contemporary artists on the global scene.

ZⓈONAMACO EJES

Curator: Direlia Lazo (Havana, 1984), independent curator, and collaborator in catalogs and magazines on Cuban and Latin American art. She previously served as director of exhibitions for Faena Art in Miami and Buenos Aires; as curator at La Tallera; curatorial assistant at the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center, Havana, and worked as coordinator of the Cátedra Arte de Conducta pedagogical project.

New Proposals and Forum merge with a rethinking that gives rise to ZⓈONAMACO EJES, a new section that manifests itself on the current urgencies of art as a great dialogue between galleries and artistic practices. The section is committed to young and established galleries with a solid commitment to artists and artistic projects that reflect on the "now", and in turn welcomes new hybrid and transitional spaces that test other dynamics of presentation and interaction with the work.

ZⓈONAMACO SUR

Curator: Luiza Teixeira de Freitas (Rio de Janeiro, 1984), is an independent curator. In addition to working on various projects in São Paulo, New York, London, Latin America and the Middle East, Luiza's practice focuses primarily on curating and consulting for private collections.

It will feature projects from different galleries around the world, where each one will present a dialogue between two artists. Inspired by fantasy and surreal ideas, as well as the limit of these concepts within each personal reality, in this edition SUR seeks to see the existing art and practices in this intertwining where art, nature and imagination meet. ZⓈONAMACO SUR will seek to present practices from the global south that reflect and exist within these lines of thought.

ZⓈONAMACO ARTE MODERNO

Curator: Esteban King Álvarez (Mexico City, 1986) is a researcher and curator of modern and contemporary art. He has a degree in History and a master's degree in Art History from UNAM.

The section will exhibit historical pieces by international artists with a panorama of genres and emblematic works produced mainly during the first half of the 20th century.
