Casa Gilardi & Saenger Galería

Saenger Galería presents the work of the Mexican artist Yoab Vera in Casa Gilardi based on a contemporary review of the horizon and the territory envisioned by the architect Luis Barragán.

Yoab Vera (Mexico City, 1985) shares this vision with the intuition of the horizontal canvas moving from contemplation to affective flash. It coincides with one of the last series painted by Diego Rivera in Acapulco (1956), where he finds sunsets that reveal the border between water and sky. Rivera stated that “perspective is the basis of all architecture, it is the mode of projection and objectification of a physiological and psychological phenomenon, the phenomenon of vision.” Yoab Vera's work at Casa Gilardi shows nostalgia for the future and the elective affinities of a trip based on a work cycle that adds experience, cognition and evaluation or preference, following Georg Simmel's Philosophy of Landscape (1913). who stated that “landscape is an exercise in art that is the product of the vital drive that animates the gaze.” For Vera, the dual formalization between landscape and nature is based on emotional vibrations translated into color and plots that dilute grids and edges. In this way, the interiors of his landscapes are located between the walls and nooks of the Gilardi House; coded messages about the fossil and tectonic origin of the territory through incisions, specks and veins that give relief to imaginaries of memory.
